Muvattupuzha police are yet to apprehend the individual responsible for the alleged robbery of 10 sovereigns of gold ornaments from a bedridden elderly woman in her home on Sunday, May 24, 2026. The victim, a woman in her 60s who had previously served as a nursing superintendent at a hospital in Jaipur, lives alone with the assistance of a maid. The robbery occurred in the morning while the victim’s brother and his family, who reside nearby, were away at church.
Authorities have identified the maid, a native of Tamil Nadu who was hired approximately six months ago, as the prime suspect. She was taken into custody and subjected to detailed interrogation but was subsequently released due to a lack of conclusive evidence linking her to the crime. According to the Muvattupuzha police, the timing of the robbery and surrounding circumstances have raised suspicions about her involvement. "While she remains the prime suspect, she was released in the absence of solid evidence to corroborate her role. The timing of the robbery and the related circumstances are the reasons for suspecting her," stated the police.
