A recent cyber fraud incident in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, has left a company severely compromised. In this incident, cybercriminals hacked into the mobile phone of a company director, impersonated him using his contacts, and duped employees and business partners into transferring ₹18 lakh.
The police have confirmed that the director’s mobile number, belonging to a private company in Jawaharlal Nehru Nagar, Noida, was hacked. Fraudulent messages were sent from the compromised phone to colleagues and business associates, requesting urgent money transfers in the director’s name. Several individuals fell prey to the scam and transferred money from their bank accounts. A total of ₹18 lakh was siphoned off into multiple bank accounts.
Police are investigating the matter and have gathered details of the hacked phone number and the bank accounts where the money was transferred. Experts are examining the technology used by the criminals and the methods employed to hack the phone. The victimized company has also filed a complaint with the police. While the director claimed his phone was secure, forensic analysis has confirmed it was indeed hacked.
