The Narkatiaganj–Muzaffarpur MEMU train, which plied between eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, has been forced off the tracks after just three days in service. Launched on 28 May 2024, the train had been hailed by local passengers as a relief measure, but on its third day—30 May 2024—the Railway administration withdrew it indefinitely. The abrupt withdrawal has left thousands of daily commuters in the lurch, scrambling for alternative transport.
During its first two days the train drew healthy ridership; locals said they had waited years for such a service because it cut their travel time dramatically. A senior officer at Muzaffarpur railway station cited technical snags and staff shortages as the reasons for the suspension, but gave no timeline for resumption.
The shutdown has hit hardest those who commute daily between Narkatiaganj and Muzaffarpur. Several passengers took to social media to vent their frustration, saying they would now have to rely on buses or private vehicles—an added expense. Local traders are equally worried, fearing a drop in customer footfall.
