Residents of New Shivaji Nagar in Bengaluru expressed strong opposition to an unauthorised factory operating in their locality during a recent protest. Held on Thursday afternoon from 3 pm, the demonstration lasted nearly two hours and saw the participation of over a hundred locals. Protesters raised concerns over smoke emissions, noise pollution, and safety hazards emanating from the factory. Speaking during the protest, Ramesh Kumar, a local resident association leader, said, “The establishment of this factory in our residential area is completely unauthorised. It poses a serious threat to our health and the environment.”
Following the protest, police officers who interacted with the residents assured them of taking necessary legal action against the factory. Authorities are also investigating to identify the factory owners. New Shivaji Nagar is primarily a residential zone, and according to BBMP regulations, industrial units require mandatory permits to operate. However, this factory appears to be functioning without any licence.
