Hyderabad witnessed a surge in unauthorised political propaganda this week, as party flags and banners were found defacing pavements and public spaces just days before Bakrid celebrations. The issue came to light on Tuesday when residents in several areas, including Malakpet, Charminar, and Old City, reported seeing party flags tied to street poles, walls, and even trees. Many of these banners displayed party symbols and slogans, raising concerns over the misuse of public property during a religious festival.
Local authorities, including the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), have since launched a clean-up drive to remove the unauthorised materials. A senior GHMC official confirmed that teams were deployed across the city to clear the flags and banners, stating, "We are ensuring no political propaganda is carried out on public property, especially during festivals." Despite these efforts, some residents allege that the clean-up is slow and insufficient, with many flags reappearing shortly after removal.
