Kolkata witnessed widespread political violence on Sunday after clashes broke out between workers of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Left Front supporters in multiple neighbourhoods. The most intense confrontations were reported from Jadavpur, Behala, and Rajarhat, where supporters of rival parties exchanged blows and hurled crude objects at each other, prompting heavy police deployment to restore order.
According to official sources, the violence began in the early hours of Sunday after a local TMC leader’s motorcade was allegedly attacked in Jadavpur. In response, TMC workers allegedly vandalized property belonging to BJP and Left Front members. In Behala, a heated argument between BJP and TMC workers escalated into stone-pelting and arson, damaging several vehicles and shops. Meanwhile, in Rajarhat, Left Front activists clashed with TMC cadres over the alleged forcible occupation of land.
