Electricity consumption across India surged nearly 11% year-on-year in May 2024, driven primarily by extreme heatwave conditions that gripped most of the country throughout the month, according to official data released by Grid India. The total power consumed reached 165 billion units (BU), a significant rise from 148.7 BU recorded in May 2023. The increase was also notable on a month-on-month basis, with May consumption exceeding April’s total of 154 BU by over 7%.
