Chandigarh, June 10, 2024 – A major development has unfolded in Punjab’s political landscape. Shiromani Akali Dal (Punjab) has suffered a significant blow after senior party leader and prominent Mansa district figure Charanjit Singh Brar announced his decision to leave the party. Brar’s exit is expected to weaken the party’s political standing, particularly in the Malwa region, where he is seen as a strong leader.
Announcing his decision, Charanjit Brar stated that he would now focus more on social service rather than party politics. He cited internal differences and disagreements over working methods within the party as reasons for his departure. Brar also clarified that while he would continue his political journey in the future, he would stay away from the party for now.
Shiromani Akali Dal (Punjab) president Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa termed Brar’s decision a major setback for the party. He acknowledged Brar as a strong and influential leader whose absence would pose challenges for the party. Dhindsa added that while the party respects Brar’s decision, it would work to overcome this loss soon.
