Kota, Rajasthan – Two railway engineers lost their lives when a section of an underpass under construction collapsed in the early hours of Wednesday, officials confirmed. The accident occurred around 3:30 am near the Kota railway station, where a new underpass is being built to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity for commuters.
According to preliminary reports, the cave-in happened during excavation work for the underpass, which is part of a larger railway infrastructure project aimed at enhancing passenger and freight movement in the region. Rescue teams, including fire and disaster management personnel, rushed to the site immediately after receiving information. The engineers were trapped under debris and could not be rescued despite best efforts. Both have been identified as Rajesh Sharma (42) and Suresh Kumar (38), permanent employees of the North Western Railway (NWR).
