Jodhpur police have confirmed through a post-mortem examination that two sisters, aged 18 and 22, died of poisoning just days before their planned weddings. The sisters, residents of Bhopalgarh town in Jodhpur district, were found dead in their home on the morning of May 22, 2024. Initial reports had raised suspicion after family members raised concerns about the timing and circumstances surrounding their deaths.
According to Dr. R.K. Sharma, the medical officer who conducted the autopsy at Jodhpur’s Mathura Das Mathur Hospital, both sisters had consumed a toxic substance that led to their deaths. While the exact poison has not been publicly disclosed, police sources indicate it was likely an organophosphate compound commonly found in pesticides. The post-mortem report, submitted on May 23, ruled out natural causes and pointed toward homicidal poisoning. Investigators have since registered a case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
