Reports have emerged that ultrasound services at Varanasi's Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital in Uttar Pradesh come to a standstill whenever the lone radiologist is absent or on leave. This has sparked strong dissatisfaction among locals and patients alike. Hospital authorities have acknowledged the issue and are working to find a solution.
According to hospital sources, the radiology department currently has only one radiologist on its rolls. Ultrasound services are suspended whenever this radiologist is unavailable, causing severe inconvenience to patients—especially those in need of emergency care.
Hospital officials say they are actively working to resolve the issue, with the process of hiring an additional radiologist already underway. Efforts are also being made to reduce the workload of the existing radiologist. However, locals believe an immediate solution is unlikely.
The state government has taken note of the situation and has assured that steps will be taken to address the staff shortage at the hospital. Yet, there are growing concerns that if such issues persist, the difficulties faced by patients will only worsen.
