Two days after a three-storey commercial building collapsed in Delhi’s Saket area, killing six people, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has announced a major crackdown on illegal structures across south Delhi. On Monday, June 1, 2026, senior MCD officials confirmed that a seal-and-vacate drive will begin immediately, targeting buildings that violate building bye-laws—particularly those exceeding the permitted ground-plus-three-floor (G+3) limit.
The enforcement action will prioritize areas such as Mehrauli, Saket, and surrounding localities, where unauthorized construction is reportedly widespread. Specific hotspots identified include Saidulajab, Paryavaran Complex, and Freedom Fighters' Enclave in Saket. In Mehrauli and nearby regions, officials will conduct detailed inspections to identify and penalize illegal structures. Under MCD’s standard procedure, buildings found in violation will first receive a 72-hour notice period. Once this expires, the corporation will proceed with sealing the property or issuing vacation orders. Violations include unauthorized construction, structural deviations, or the operation of unpermitted commercial activities in non-conforming zones.
