The recent celebration of the Akhand Ashtayam festival in various villages of Saran district has infused an atmosphere of devotion and enthusiasm among the people. The festival, which symbolises dedication to Lord Shri Ram, involves the Ashtayam worship of the deity, performed meticulously according to prescribed rituals. During the event, recitations of the Ramayana, kirtans, and community feasts (bhandaras) were organised, fostering religious fervour and social harmony among the locals.
The Ashtayam worship involves eight-fold worship of Lord Ram, with special rituals conducted during each of the eight prahars (three-hour periods) of the day and night. This year, special arrangements were made in local temples and dharamshalas. Villagers reported that crowds of devotees began gathering at the temples early in the morning, followed by the distribution of prasad. In several villages, preparations for the festival had begun days in advance.
