The incident took place in Kochi, Kerala. Around 11 p.m. on the night of June 11, 2024, a youth stabbed two security guards near a commercial centre in Kochi city. Following the attack, both security personnel sustained serious injuries. During the investigation, police confirmed that the attacker was a 25-year-old man named Ajay Kumar (also referred to as Adarsh Kumar in reports).
After the attack, the youth fled the scene. Following the launch of the police investigation, officials indicated, based on a note recovered from the spot, that the youth had intended to join ISIS, a foreign terrorist organisation, and had carried out the attack on security personnel with that aim in mind. Reports suggest that the note contained specific calls to join ISIS.
Kochi City Police Commissioner Vijay Sakshi stated that the possibility of the incident being linked to terrorist activity is being taken very seriously. He added that police are analysing the evidence collected from the scene to determine the youth’s background. The investigation is ongoing after the commercial centre was secured.
