Families in Hubballi-Dharwad, Karnataka, are facing acute shortages of essential food supplies after a series of server glitches disrupted the public distribution system (PDS) on Tuesday. The technical malfunction, reported in the state’s e-POS (electronic Point of Sale) system, has stalled the supply of subsidised ration to thousands of beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act (NFSA).
Officials from the Food and Civil Supplies Department confirmed the issue, stating that the server outages began late Monday night and continued into Tuesday morning. The e-POS system, which verifies beneficiary identities and records transactions, failed to authenticate ration cards at multiple fair price shops across both cities. As a result, shopkeepers were unable to distribute grains such as rice, wheat, and pulses to cardholders. One shopkeeper in Dharwad said, “Since morning, no transactions have been processed. We’ve turned away dozens of people, and many are visibly distressed.”
