Patna, July 11 — A boat carrying at least 14 people capsized in the Ganga river near Umanath Ganga Ghat in Barh subdivision of Patna district on Thursday afternoon, leaving two people dead and five others missing. The incident occurred around midday when strong winds reportedly overturned the boat midstream. Eyewitnesses and nearby boatmen immediately rushed to the spot and managed to rescue several passengers even before government authorities arrived.
According to a local eyewitness quoted by PTI, the boat was carrying approximately 14 to 15 people when it capsized. “Around seven people are feared drowned. Others were rescued using another boat,” the eyewitness said. The exact number of people who drowned has not yet been confirmed. Meanwhile, Barh Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Ramakrishna provided a detailed account of the incident to the press. “A small boat overturned due to strong winds. Fourteen people were on board. Seven people are reported safe, while two bodies have been recovered. Another five people are missing,” he said.
