JAMMU, May 24, 2026: The Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court has sharply criticised the police for conducting a “slipshod” investigation into the alleged rape of a minor between 2021 and 2022, which led to the birth of a baby girl. On Friday, Justice Rajnesh Oswal directed the police to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) within seven days to identify the actual perpetrator after DNA tests conclusively ruled out the accused as the child’s father. The court also sought a compliance report by June 29 and ordered the Sessions Judge to return the chargesheet to the Station House Officer (SHO) for further investigation.
