Madurai, Tamil Nadu — Thousands of Muslims across Madurai gathered at historic mosques on Monday morning to offer special prayers marking the celebration of Bakrid, also known as Eid al-Adha. The festival, which commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God, was observed with reverence and communal harmony.
The central venue for the main prayer was the historic Kazimar Big Mosque in the heart of the city, which has been a spiritual landmark for over 700 years. The mosque, located in the bustling Meenakshi Amman temple vicinity, witnessed a large turnout of men, women, and children dressed in their finest traditional attire. Local religious leaders, including Moulana Rafiuddin, led the congregational prayers, followed by a sermon emphasizing peace, sacrifice, and community service. Similar arrangements were made at other prominent mosques such as the Periya Pallivasal and the Makka Masjid, where smaller groups of worshippers also assembled.
