A controversial incident unfolded in a busy area of Surat on Saturday evening, where a young man accused of molesting a minor girl was beaten nearly to death by a mob. The incident occurred right outside a police station, sparking a commotion. The accused was caught and severely assaulted by local residents before the police intervened, took control of the situation, and arrested him.
According to preliminary information, the incident took place around 6 PM. The accused, identified as Sohan Gaikwad (22 years old), is a local resident. He is alleged to have attempted to molest a 16-year-old girl who was walking on the road with her family. The accused reportedly followed her and made obscene gestures. When the girl screamed for help, nearby people caught hold of him.
The mob brutally beat the accused and dragged him to the Tehsildar police outpost outside the police station, where they confined him. The police took some time to reach the spot, during which the mob held the accused for nearly half an hour. The police immediately registered a case and sent the accused for a medical examination. While the accused sustained serious injuries, the girl is reported to be safe.
