An incident of continuous harassment and indecent acts against a 15-year-old girl has come to light in a Thane suburb over the past six months. The victim is a Class 9 student at a local private school. According to police sources, the accused threatened the victim that if she told her parents about the harassment, it would damage her family’s reputation and subject them to social humiliation. Relying on this threat, the accused extorted approximately ₹50,000 from the victim.
After learning of the incident, the victim’s family filed a written complaint with the police. The police have registered a case against the accused under Section 354 (attempt to outrage the modesty of a woman), Section 384 (extortion), and Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. The accused has been arrested and is being interrogated. The victim has also been provided immediate medical consultation and psychological support.
