Forest officials in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district successfully tranquillised and captured a tigress on Sunday, May 24, 2026, after it mauled four women to death in the Sindewahi taluka. The incident occurred near Pawanpar pond in the Bramhapuri forest division, where the animal was darted and placed in a cage. According to a forest official, the tigress had been tracked using live and trap cameras—three live and 30 trap cameras—installed to monitor its movements.
The fatal attack took place on Friday, when four women were harvesting tendu patta (Indian Ebony leaf) in the Gunjewahi forest area. The women, all from tribal communities, were a part of a group of seven who ventured into the forest to collect the seasonal produce, a vital source of income during summer for local families. When three women returned and found four missing, they raised the alarm, leading to the discovery of the bodies. The deceased have been identified as Kavdabai Mohurle (45), Anitabai Mohurle (40), Sunita Mohurle (38), and Sangeeta Chaudhary (50).
