Preparations are underway for the first phase of the Assembly elections in two key Indian states, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. This time, polling for the first phase in both states will take place on April 19. Against this backdrop, leaders of all major political parties have begun their final push. In Tamil Nadu, the long-standing rivalry between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) continues. DMK leader and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is campaigning with a focus on Tamil pride, while AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami is rallying support for his party’s candidates.
In West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress (TMC), led by Mamata Banerjee, remains a dominant force. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress have emerged as strong contenders against the TMC. BJP leader Dilip Ghosh and Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury are campaigning in support of their party candidates. In this state, the BJP and Congress have also formed an alliance, strengthening their fight against the TMC.
