Political corridors in Tamil Nadu are abuzz with speculation over the future of Annamalai, the former state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In a recent interaction with journalists at Chennai airport, Annamalai hinted that he would clarify his next steps within two days, stating, “I will answer all questions in two days.” This has heightened curiosity among political analysts and the public about whether he is set to leave the BJP and launch a new party.
Annamalai is currently in Delhi, where he is expected to meet BJP national president J.P. Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Sources suggest the meeting could play a crucial role in determining his political trajectory. Earlier, in April 2025, Annamalai was removed from his position as Tamil Nadu BJP president and replaced by Naindra Naganathan. Reports indicate this change was driven by differences between Annamalai and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi Palaniswami, compounded by the decision not to field him in the 2026 assembly elections. Following this, Annamalai had stated he would focus on ground-level campaigning.
