Polling for the first phase of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections will take place on April 6, with campaigning concluding at 11:59 p.m. today (April 5), as per information released by the Election Commission of India. Voting will be held in 21 Assembly constituencies across the state, including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Vellore, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Tirupattur, Salem, Namakkal, Erode, Tiruchirappalli, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Theni, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Sivaganga, Teni, and Coimbatore.
The campaign period will close at midnight on April 5, during which political parties and candidates have been actively campaigning through rallies, public meetings, and media outreach. Major parties such as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) have been mobilising their efforts to support their candidates.
The Election Commission has assured that the electoral process will be conducted transparently and fairly, with measures such as video recording at polling stations, deployment of observers, and monitoring of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). Polling will take place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 6, with counting and results expected on May 2.
