Transport fares in Karnataka have been increased once again. The transport operators’ association has taken this decision for the second time and implemented a 5-10% fare hike. This increase will remain in effect for the next 15 days, after which further instructions will be issued.
Explaining the reasons behind the fare hike, Prahlad Mali, president of the transport operators’ association, stated that rising fuel prices and increased vehicle maintenance costs have played a major role. As a result, transport expenses will rise, impacting both the public and traders.
This is not the first time fares have been increased. Previously, fares were hiked by 5-10% for the first time, and now a second increase has been implemented. Following the earlier hike, there was widespread opposition from the public. Despite this, the transport operators’ association has maintained that the fare increase was unavoidable.
The government’s response to the fare hike is still awaited, as no official statement has been issued so far. With the increase in fares, the public and traders will have to bear higher costs, which could have economic repercussions.
