The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday took Giribala Singh, mother-in-law of Twisha Sharma, into custody in Bhopal following the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s decision to quash her anticipatory bail. The development comes as part of the ongoing investigation into the death of Twisha Sharma, which has been registered under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Dowry Prohibition Act, and allegations of cruelty and harassment.
Giribala Singh, along with her son Samarth, is currently being questioned at the CBI office in Bhopal. The arrest follows a significant judicial intervention on Wednesday, when the Madhya Pradesh High Court set aside a May 15 order from a Bhopal sessions court that had granted anticipatory bail to Giribala Singh. Justice Devnarayan Mishra, while allowing the petitions challenging the bail, noted that the trial court had failed to adequately consider crucial evidence, including statements from family members, witness testimonies, and other material available in the case diary.
