Namakkal, June 1, 2026: A tense and prolonged protest unfolded outside the Kumarapalayam police station in Namakkal district on Monday after two elderly men were arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting two minor girls in separate incidents on Sunday evening. The incidents have triggered outrage among local residents, who demanded swift justice and even resorted to road blockades and clashes with police.
According to police sources, the first incident involved a three-year-old girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted by a 59-year-old man while she was playing near her house. The child reportedly informed her parents about the assault, following which they lodged a complaint with the Kumarapalayam police. A case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and the accused was arrested on Monday, June 1. The survivor was taken to the Kumarapalayam Government Hospital, where doctors stated that her condition was stable.
