Sanitation workers employed at Varanasi airport staged a protest on Tuesday, alleging they had been unfairly terminated after their age was recorded as 45. The workers expressed deep anger over the financial distress this has caused their families.
The protest took place on Tuesday morning (July 23, 2024) around 10 a.m. near the entrance gate of Varanasi airport. Approximately 40-50 sanitation workers gathered there, claiming they had been terminated despite being ineligible for retirement under company policy, as their actual age was higher than 45.
One of the workers said, “We have worked at this airport for many years. Our age was recorded as 45, and we were unjustly terminated. The financial support we provided for our families has now stopped. It has become difficult to pay for our children’s education and household expenses.” The worker expressed his distress over the situation.
