The Congress party has publicly reaffirmed its support for the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu, following the 2026 Assembly election results that saw actor Vijay’s party, TVK, secure the majority and form the government with backing from Congress and other DMK allies.
In a sharp political message on social media, Congress stated, “We stood with you in difficult times,” directly addressing the DMK. The statement comes as tensions rise between the two parties over seat-sharing negotiations and post-poll governance in the state. The DMK, which had been a dominant force in Tamil Nadu politics for decades, faced a significant setback after losing ground to Vijay’s TVK, which won a record number of seats in the 250-member Assembly.
