Indian Railways’ new offering, the Amrit Bharat Express, has commenced its journey from Sealdah station in Kolkata towards Varanasi. The train flagged off on Thursday, 20 September 2024, at 12:40 PM from Sealdah station. Present at the inaugural run were Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw along with several senior railway officials. The train reached Varanasi Cantonment station at 7:15 PM in the evening.
The Amrit Bharat Express is a next-generation train by Indian Railways, known for its speed and comfort. The train features station-based boarding, automatic doors, premium seating, Wi-Fi connectivity, and a pantry car. It runs at a speed of around 130 km per hour, significantly faster than previous trains. The train consists of 24 coaches, including four AC Chair Cars, twelve Sleeper Class coaches, and eight General Class coaches.
Passengers on the inaugural journey were highly enthusiastic. Many shared that this train would elevate their travel experience. Rahul Banerjee, a resident of Kolkata, said, “I have visited Varanasi many times before, but I’ve never experienced such a fast and comfortable journey.” On the other hand, Seema Mishra, a resident of Varanasi, said, “This train will significantly reduce the distance between our city and Kolkata.”
