West Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) is facing an internal rebellion after 50 party MLAs reportedly expressed discontent following the expulsion of two senior leaders—Ritabrata Banerjee and Sandipan Saha—on allegations of anti-party activities. The expulsions, announced on Wednesday, have raised concerns over rising factionalism within the party led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Ritabrata Banerjee, a former Rajya Sabha MP and close aide of Mamata Banerjee, and Sandipan Saha, a sitting MLA from the Habra constituency, were expelled from the party for “conduct detrimental to the organisation.” While official statements cited “violation of party discipline,” sources close to the development suggest the move was linked to their growing dissent over recent political decisions, including cabinet reshuffles and candidate selections for upcoming elections.
