India and the United States are poised to sign the first tranche of a landmark bilateral trade agreement after resolving nearly all key issues, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced on Monday. A high-level US delegation led by Chief Negotiator Brendan Lynch arrived in New Delhi on June 1 for a four-day round of talks aimed at finalising the interim pact. Goyal stated that members of the US team had already begun arriving ahead of meetings scheduled for June 2, 3, and 4. “As far as the US team is concerned, some members have already arrived, while others are arriving tonight,” he said. The minister expressed confidence that the first tranche of the agreement would be concluded and signed “as soon as possible.”
