Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday announced that the West Bengal government had swiftly transferred 600 hectares of land to the Border Security Force (BSF) for the construction of border fencing within just seven days. Speaking at an event in Cooch Behar, Shah also revealed that an additional 121 hectares in the strategically sensitive Chicken's Neck corridor had been handed over to the central government, underscoring the state's cooperation in enhancing border security.
The rapid land transfer marks a significant development in the ongoing efforts to secure India's borders, particularly in regions with heightened security concerns. The Chicken's Neck, a narrow stretch of land in West Bengal connecting the northeastern states to the rest of India, is a critical area due to its proximity to international borders and vulnerability to infiltration and smuggling. The additional 121 hectares of land will reportedly be used for strengthening border infrastructure in this region.
