The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has faced a major cyber attack on its online portal for the re-evaluation of 12th class answer sheets. The portal, which was launched on June 2, 2026, at 9 am, was immediately targeted by mischievous elements with a 'Denial of Service' (DoS) cyber attack. According to CBSE's official statement, the attack resulted in 15 lakh hits on the portal within just 2 minutes, and over 1 lakh attempts were made to access files without permission. The aim of the attack was to disrupt the portal's services, causing difficulties for thousands of students applying. CBSE stated that the portal has the capacity to support over 8,000 users simultaneously. Despite this capacity, the cyber attack caused problems for many students. However, CBSE said that their teams responded promptly to make the platform more secure and user-friendly, including increasing the session time limit to facilitate the application process. As per CBSE, over 16,000 students had successfully applied for re-evaluation by 3 pm on June 2. This is not the first time that CBSE's portal has faced a cyber attack. In 2024, the portal for obtaining scanned copies of 12th class answer sheets was also hacked, with hackers demanding Rs 8,000 per subject from students, while the CBSE-authorized fee was only Rs 100 per subject. After the incident, CBSE acknowledged the hacking and said that their teams were investigating the matter immediately. Additionally, some hackers, known as 'ethical hackers,' have repeatedly claimed that CBSE's portal can be easily hacked, posing a risk of leaking students' personal data. CBSE has assured that its cyber security teams are fully alert and will provide all possible assistance to students after this attack. Several complaints have also been raised by students regarding the portal. Some students reported difficulties in applying, while others alleged technical issues on the portal. Based on these complaints, CBSE has attempted to further improve the portal to make the application process more convenient and transparent. A CBSE spokesperson said that their teams are constantly monitoring the portal to prevent any cyber attacks. They stated that continuous efforts are being made to make the portal more secure, so that students do not face any inconvenience. Furthermore, CBSE has appealed to students to immediately report any unusual activity on the portal to the authorities.
