A sharp challenge to Silicon Valley’s long-standing dominance in tech hiring has arrived from Europe. Anton Osika, co-founder and CEO of Sweden-based AI startup Lovable, declared on LinkedIn that the era of American tech giants being the “safe, prestigious choice” for software engineers is over. In a direct appeal to engineers who have been laid off or fear future job cuts, Osika urged professionals to “consider Lovable” and join an environment where they can “do the best work of their career in an extremely fast-paced setting.” The post, which went live recently, comes at a time when major US tech firms—including Google, Microsoft and Meta—have cumulatively shed tens of thousands of jobs over the past two years despite reporting record profits.
