A retired Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) manager and his wife lost their lives after their car became submerged in a waterlogged railway underpass near Omalur in Salem district on Monday morning. The tragedy occurred during a spell of heavy rain that began late Sunday night, causing severe flooding at the underpass located near Enathi village in Semmandapatti.
The deceased were identified as Venkatachalam (65), a retired TNSTC manager, and his wife Radha (60). Both residents of Chinna Tirupathi in Salem city, they had been living alone after Venkatachalam’s retirement. The couple’s son resides in the United States, while their daughter lives in Coimbatore. Family members confirmed that the couple was heading to a relative’s wedding in Omalur when the incident occurred.
