In a significant electoral setback for the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a commanding victory in the re-polling of the Falta assembly constituency, held on May 21. The BJP candidate, Debangshu Panda, won by a margin of over 1.09 lakh votes, capturing approximately 71.2% of the total votes polled. Sambhu Nath Kurmi of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] finished as the runner-up with 40,625 votes, representing 19.34% of the total votes. The Congress candidate, Abdur Razzak Molla, received 10,084 votes, while the TMC, despite having withdrawn its candidate Jahangir Khan two days before polling, still managed to secure 7,783 votes.
