The district administration has invited farmers and pottery makers to apply through e-Sevai centres for free excavation and transport of silt, clay, and ordinary earth from designated waterbodies to support agricultural and pottery activities. Collector R. Elambahavath issued a public release stating that the State government has permitted the removal of these materials under a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to enhance soil quality and support traditional crafts.
A total of 305 waterbodies in the district—including lakes, reservoirs, and canals—have been identified as eligible sources for silt and clay excavation. A special notification to this effect has been published in the district gazette, formalising the initiative.
