The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has recently alerted students about a fake DigiLocker website that is attempting to dupe them in the name of the CISCE. This fraudulent website claims to offer DigiLocker and CISCE services but is actually a scam. MeitY shared a post on its official X handle stating that the website is not affiliated with the government, despite its interface resembling the official service portal. DigiLocker also issued a similar warning this week on the same platform, cautioning users against using this fake website. Officials have warned that this fake portal could steal login credentials, Aadhaar-linked information, and access to important personal documents stored in DigiLocker accounts. The fake website primarily targets students awaiting their examination results. Scammers have created a website that closely mimics the real government portal, including the name, logo, and design. When you log in to this fake portal, you are prompted to enter credentials like your phone number, password, and Aadhaar number to view your results. Once you enter these details, you may receive an OTP on the official DigiLocker app or website, which is how it is officially done. However, this gives the impression that the portal is legitimate—until you use the code to log in to the fake website, thereby granting scammers access to your actual DigiLocker portal. Once they gain access, they can view all the documents you have linked to the portal, including your Aadhaar card, PAN card, educational certificates, and other sensitive information. Therefore, it is crucial to safeguard your important documents and avoid sharing your credentials on any unfamiliar websites. MeitY has advised students to use only official .gov.in websites and refrain from sharing OTPs on any unknown platforms. If a website appears suspicious or demands unexpected payments, verify its authenticity through official sources before proceeding.
