A case of kidnapping of an 18-month-old child in Bareilly district, Uttar Pradesh, has caused a stir across the region. The police have arrested two accused in the case. One of the accused is Yogesh Kannaujia, a young man who was working as a staff nurse at a medical college. He decided to enter the child theft racket to fulfill his girlfriend’s expensive habits and out of greed for money. The police investigation has also revealed that this gang’s connections extend beyond Bareilly division to Lakhimpur Kheri and even Delhi.
During interrogation, Yogesh told the police that he had completed an MSc in Nursing and had been working as a staff nurse in a medical college and private hospitals for the past four years. It was during this time that he met a man named Uttam Singh, a resident of Lakhimpur Kheri, who told him that children could be sold to wealthy families who could not have their own, earning lakhs of rupees in the process. Tempted by this idea, Yogesh roped in his associate Pawan Chandel, a resident of Badaun, into the racket. Together, they began searching for a small child who could be easily snatched.
