Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) Member of Parliament from Barasat Lok Sabha constituency, has attributed the party’s recent electoral setbacks in the region to a combination of factors, including alleged misconduct by the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) and strong anti-incumbency sentiments. Speaking publicly, Dastidar specifically criticised I-PAC, a political strategy group often engaged by opposition parties, for its “lack of manners” and “rude behaviour” during campaign activities in the area.
The losses were significant: out of the seven Assembly segments within the Barasat parliamentary constituency, the TMC won only two in the recent elections. Dastidar described the outcome as the result of a “cumulative effect,” highlighting two key contributing factors. First, she pointed to widespread anti-incumbency, suggesting that voter fatigue with the ruling party’s prolonged presence in power played a major role. Second, she underscored the impact of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, a process that updated voter lists and may have altered local political dynamics.
