The Indian women’s cricket team has now turned its focus to its next major goal—the T20 World Cup 2026. Before that, the team will face a three-match T20 series against England starting Thursday, 28 May, which is being seen as a dress rehearsal for the World Cup to be held in England next year. This series will serve as a crucial test for both teams at the international level, as the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 itself kicks off on 12 June in England.
The opening match of the series will be played at the County Ground in Chelmsford. While this ground is not entirely new to the Indian team, their performance here over the past 14 years has been far from impressive. In fact, India suffered an eight-wicket defeat against England at this very venue in a T20 match in 2012. Harmanpreet Kaur, who was part of that team, is still with the squad today, but the rest of the players will be experiencing this ground for the first time. Given this, Team India will need to tailor its strategy according to the pitch and weather conditions at Chelmsford.
