A joyous wedding celebration in Dawsonville, Georgia, turned into a profound tragedy when an Indian-origin pilot, Dave Fiji, was killed in a helicopter crash just hours after marrying his long-time partner, Jesni. The Robinson R66 helicopter, which the newlyweds had boarded for a special send-off to DeKalb-Peachtree Airport, crashed in a heavily wooded area near the wedding venue shortly after taking off on Friday night. The crash also claimed the life of the helicopter pilot, while Dave's new wife, Jesni, miraculously survived and is currently recovering in hospital.
Around 400 guests had gathered at The Revere in Dawsonville to celebrate the union of Dave and Jesni, who met through church connections in South Carolina and Georgia. Dave's father, George Fiji, described his son as being "so happy" and "so handsome" on his wedding day, recounting how he was admiring him during the ceremony. George referred to the couple as "friends who decided to become life partners."
