A fierce backlash is brewing in Indore’s upscale Residency Area over the government’s decision to allot residential flats to displaced persons. Local resident welfare organisations have warned of launching an aggressive protest and demanded the immediate reversal of the decision. Speaking at a meeting held on Monday, Rajesh Sharma, president of the Residents’ Welfare Association, stated that the decision was taken without any prior consultation, sparking widespread resentment among the area’s residents.
Opponents argue that Residency Area is one of the most expensive and prestigious residential zones in the city, where property prices have skyrocketed. They fear that allocating flats to displaced persons in the area could adversely impact the local social fabric and resources. “Our objection is not against providing housing to the displaced, but against the unplanned and resource-deficient manner in which this allocation is being carried out,” Sharma asserted. He further warned that unless the administration revisits its decision, they will escalate the agitation on a large scale.
