The Jammu and Kashmir administration has put forward a recommendation to cancel at least 116 passports belonging to individuals accused of drug smuggling. This move is part of an intensified crackdown on "narco-terror" activities within the union territory, spearheaded by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. Sinha, who oversees law and order in Jammu and Kashmir, has been actively leading an awareness campaign against drug abuse, visiting districts across the region.
During a recent padyatra (foot march) in Shopian, South Kashmir, on Saturday, where official estimates indicated a participation of 50,000 local residents, Lieutenant Governor Sinha emphasized the grave connection between drug proceeds and terrorism. He stated that terrorist groups utilize funds generated from drug smuggling to procure weapons, which are then used to perpetrate violence against ordinary Kashmiris. Sinha unequivocally declared that any official or public figure found to be linked with or supportive of the drug network will face severe legal repercussions. He assured the public that any "infection" of this nature within the system would be "mercilessly cut out without hesitation."
