Lucknow, June 5: A new study has shed light on menstrual health and the stigma surrounding it among teenage girls in India. According to a survey conducted at a renowned medical college in Lucknow, embarrassment related to menstruation has decreased by 78% among teenage girls due to access to accurate information through social media.
The study was conducted at King George’s Medical University in Lucknow, with 500 teenage girls participating in the survey. Their ages ranged from 13 to 19 years. Dr. Seema Mishra, the lead researcher of the study, said, “Access to accurate information about menstruation through social media is reducing ignorance and embarrassment among girls. This helps them better cope with the mental and physical challenges they face during their periods.”
According to the study, access to accurate information about menstruation through social media has enabled girls to better understand the changes in their bodies. Additionally, this awareness has encouraged them to openly discuss menstruation with their friends and family, further reducing the stigma associated with it.
