Mumbai, June 12 — In a significant move to strengthen rural infrastructure, the Maharashtra Cabinet on Wednesday approved a proposal to secure a USD 50 million (approximately ₹415 crore) loan from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) for the upgradation and maintenance of rural roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The loan will be utilized specifically for the "Gram Sadak Yojana," the state’s component of the national rural connectivity scheme aimed at providing all-weather road access to eligible unconnected habitations. According to official sources, the funds will be used to construct and upgrade approximately 1,000 kilometers of rural roads across the state, particularly in remote and underserved districts.
