The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the structure of the inaugural WPL season last year. This league follows the Twenty20 format and includes five teams: Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, UP Warriors, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Mumbai Indians.
