New Delhi, May 26, 2026: The Congress party on Monday accused the Narendra Modi-led government of presiding over a “daily robbery” after state-run fuel retailers raised petrol and diesel prices for the fourth time in less than two weeks. The increases—₹2.61 per litre for petrol and ₹2.71 per litre for diesel—were announced on May 25 and come on top of three earlier revisions since fuel prices were unfrozen on May 15.
In a strongly worded post on X, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said the latest hike showed that the “daily assault of FUEL LOOT is not over yet.” He highlighted that cumulative increases since May 15 have now pushed petrol and diesel prices up by nearly ₹7.5 per litre across the country. “Petrol is now ₹102.12 per litre in Delhi, diesel ₹95.20,” he noted, adding that prices vary by city due to local taxes.
