The Karnataka government is set to integrate its e-Swathu platform with the Centre’s Svamitva Yojana (Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas) to create a unified digital system for rural property records. The move aims to include sketches, geo-site images, and other details currently missing from e-Swathu, enabling better mapping of roads, drains, and public spaces in villages. This integration will help identify encroachments on public lands and consolidate all village property-related information into a single, accessible platform.
A recent pilot study conducted in 10 villages compared property records under the Svamitva scheme with those in the state’s e-Swathu system. The study found that 5,089 properties had been mapped using drones under Svamitva, but only 2,306 (45%) had valid digital property records, known as PID Khata, in e-Swathu. Another 1,366 properties (27%) were linked through outdated manual Khatas, while 1,417 properties (28%) had no Khata records at all. Officials highlighted that three out of every 10 properties surveyed under Svamitva remain outside official records, indicating a significant gap between drone survey data and existing government land records.
